The Balearic nautical sector opens its doors to the public with the Balearic Boating Day
The Balearic Marine Cluster, together with other public entities such as AENIB-ANEN and companies from the Balearic nautical sector, has launched the Balearic Boating Day, the local adaptation of the World Boating Day, with the aim of bringing to the Balearic Islands a philosophy of openness, outreach, and connection between the nautical sector and society.
Under the slogan “Come closer and live the experience”, the Balearic Boating Day aims to showcase the professional opportunities, economic impact, and diversity of profiles within the nautical sector to young people, students, and the general public. The initiative will allow companies, marinas, shipyards, and training centres to open their doors to the public and reveal the inner workings of a strategic industry for the Balearic Islands.
From 18 to 23 May, the archipelago will host a full programme of activities open to the public, culminating in a major central event on 23 May at the facilities of Port Adriano. The Balearic Boating Festival will bring together activities for all audiences, ranging from Mediterranean-inspired gastronomic experiences to talks on sustainability, marine environmental protection, professional opportunities for young people, charter skippers, marine conservation, and best practices at sea.
Port Adriano’s programme will also include spaces dedicated to training, employment, and innovation, as well as the presentation of the Proyecto Hispania, focused on the restoration of a historic vessel linked to maritime heritage. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the traditional craft of the Mestres d’Aixa, with demonstrations of artisanal wooden boatbuilding and restoration techniques. The festival will also feature a second-hand boat exhibition, sailing school activities, and introductory navigation workshops.
The programme will also include the Women in Nautics Vermouth, an informal gathering aimed at women working in the sector, both ashore and on board. The event will combine an introductory talk with a networking session, with the goal of strengthening a growing professional community within the Balearic nautical industry.
The agenda in Mallorca will continue with the 6th Alcudiamar – Projecte Home Balears Trophy, taking place on 23 and 24 May in Alcúdia. This sporting and charitable event is organised together with Projecte Home Balears, and all proceeds will go to Projecte Jove, a programme focused on supporting young people in recovery processes.
Another key activity will be the joint guided tour of STP Shipyard Palma and Astilleros de Mallorca, two of the leading refit and maintenance facilities in the Mediterranean, on 19 and 20 May from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. These visits will provide insight into the daily operations of both facilities, their infrastructure, services, and superyacht maintenance and repair processes.
The cultural side of the maritime world will be represented by the art exhibition opening at Club de Mar Mallorca, a showcase exploring the connection between the sea and contemporary creation through works by Patrick Molony Harris, Carol Romero, Chus Martínez Rozada, Carlo Mazzoni, and Ascensión Verd.
In Menorca, the Centre de la Mar Menorca will host open days on 19, 20 and 21 May, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The activity will offer visitors the opportunity to discover its facilities, learn about specialised training programmes, and gain practical insight into the various professional profiles linked to boating and vessel maintenance.
With this initiative, the Balearic Islands strengthen their position as one of the most important nautical territories in the Mediterranean, promoting an event that combines industry, training, sustainability, culture, employment, and direct experience with the sea.
