The Balearic nautical sector face the year's final stretch with a decrease
In the absence of a month to finish the year, the Balearics keep leading the national ranking of registries of craft boats, although the total volume has descended in the eleven first months of the year. According to the data of the Recreational Boats Market Report(January-November 2025), edited by ANEN from the data given by the Directorate General of the Marine Merchante, the archipelago has gone from 790 registered units at the end of November of 2024 to 646 just a year later, a drop of the 18,2 %. That didn't stop the area to still be the leader in the general market as well as the part of the charter.
In the whole country, during this period there's been a registry of a 1,3% drop in the total of registried, being placed at the end of November in 4.829 recreational boats, 66 units less that in the same 2024 period. The areas that come after the Balearics in volume of registries have been Barcelona, with 556 registries, and Murcia, with 476.
While the private use has kept a certain strength, the charter has been the are that has gone back the most in Spain, with a 19,9% drop, until placing in 1.395 registries between January and November of 2025. No matter the adjustment, rental keeps a relevant weight inside the group of the nautical sector, representing the 28,9% of the total of carried out registries in Spain this year.
In the boat rental area, the Balearics have consolidated the 22,7% of these registries destined to this market in Spain. This segment, however, has caused a setback, since registries destined to rental have gone down by a 23% regarding last year in the archipelago. The second area with major market quota in this segment is Barcelona, with a 13,7% and in third position there's Alicante, with a 12,1% of the registries.
“Stabilization of the crafts boats market conffirms that the demand for private use keeps a positive tendency, boosted by the segment of small lenght. The user keeps focusing on boating as a leisure and recreational activity", point out Jordi Carrasco, general director of ANEN. “Charter continues adjusting to a normalized scenary after years of strong post-pandemic growth, but keeps being an essential pillar for the sector”, he adds.
