The Balearic Islands recorded 687 registrations of recreational boats between January and August 2026, 15% more than during the same period last year. The islands therefore account for 15.7% of Spain’s national boating market and remain the province with the highest number of registrations, according to a report by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN), based on data from the Directorate-General of the Merchant Marine.

The performance of the Balearic market is above the growth recorded across Spain as a whole. Nationwide, 4,371 registrations were recorded through August, compared with 4,084 during the same period in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 7%. In August alone, 437 registrations were recorded, 9.3% more than the 400 registered in the same month last year.

The Balearic Islands top the regional ranking with 687 registrations, followed by Barcelona, with 529, up 6.2% from 2025, and Madrid, with 345, representing growth of 15.8%. They are followed by Girona, with 263 units; Murcia, with 262; and Alicante, with 256.

The rental market is also showing positive growth. Across Spain, 1,401 boats intended for charter were registered through August, 10.1% more than during the same period in 2025. The latest month also recorded a 15.3% increase, according to ANEN.

The Balearic Islands are also the market leader in this segment, with 341 charter boat registrations through August and a 24.3% market share. They are followed by Barcelona, with 182 registered units and a 13% share, and Girona, with 126 registrations and a 9% share.
