The Balearic Islands continue to lead boat registrations despite a year of widespread declines across Spain
The nautical market in the Balearic Islands continues to show strength and leadership at the national level during the peak season, despite a significant drop in the number of boat registrations over the first seven months of the year.
Between January and July 2025, the Balearic Islands recorded 486 recreational boat registrations, representing a 23.2% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the Recreational Boat Market Report (January–July 2025) published by ANEN using data from the Directorate-General for the Merchant Navy.
According to Jordi Carrasco, Director General of ANEN, “After a general decline at the beginning of the year, the market has shown signs of recovery since June, pointing toward an adjustment in demand and a potentially positive end to the current nautical season, although we remain alert to economic developments and external factors that may affect consumer behavior.”
This decline is part of a broader national trend, with 3,684 new registrations across Spain from January to July 2025. Nevertheless, the Balearic Islands remain the province with the highest number of registrations as of July 2025, ahead of Barcelona (470) and Murcia (336).
Focusing on the charter market, one of the key drivers of the sector in the Balearics, boats intended for rental use registered a 17.3% drop nationwide, totaling 1,175 registrations in the first seven months of the year.
