Slight decrease of the number of registered recreational crafts in the Balearics
Regarding the charter market, with 310 registered unities, the archipelago concentrates almost one quarter of the total of the national boating market (22,7%), even though there's a 23,5% decrease regarding registries destined to rental in the first ten months of the year.
Between January and October of 2025, 622 recreational crafts were registered in the Balearics, which means a 19,3% decrease regarding the same period last year, when 771 registries were made, according to the data of the 'Informe del Mercado de Embarcaciones de Recreo' (January-October 2025), edited by ANEN with the data given by the Directorate General of the Marine Merchant.
This evolution matches with the decreasing tendency registered in Spain, where 4.617 boats were registered during the first ten months of the year, a 2,7% less than the year before.
In the whole of Spain. 1.367 recreational crafts destined to charter were registered, which mean a 20% decrease regarding the period comprehended between January and October of 2024.
“From a tendency point of view, charter is showing a major difficulty to recover the pre-pandemic levels, before a more stable private-use market, even if it's sustained by the small lenght. Either way, the charter market is still an essential pillar for recreational boating in Spain”, explains the general director of ANEN, Jordi Carrasco. “After the strong boost that the rental experienced during the pandemic, now we observe a stabilization of the market, with logical adjustments that answer to a major normalization of the demand. The interest for boating keeps growing, but the user looks for more diversified experiences, and that will mark the evolution of charter the following months", he adds.
Either way, the Balearic Islands keep the national leadership as the area with the most quota in this market, by keeping the 16,3% of registries in the whole of Spain. It is followed by Barcelona, with a 11,8% and 542 units, and Alicante, with a 6,9%.
