Mallorca introduces the Mexican market to a new way of discovering the island by sea
AENIB, represented by its president, Jaume Vaquer, took part in the press trip organised by ANEN and promoted by Turespaña through its Spanish Tourist Office (OET) in Mexico. The initiative brought a group of Mexican lifestyle and business journalists to Mallorca to discover the island’s potential as a leading destination for premium nautical tourism.
The visit, which ran until Friday, 2 October, provided a fresh opportunity to showcase the strength of the Balearic nautical sector and the extensive business ecosystem that has developed around the sea to an international audience. In this context, AENIB attended as the representative of the Balearic Islands’ nautical business community, helping to convey a vision of the destination that goes far beyond its exceptional sailing conditions.
AENIB president Jaume Vaquer attended the institutional welcome reception for the Mexican delegation in Palma, alongside representatives of the islands’ main public authorities and tourism and nautical organisations. These included Alejandro Sáez de San Pedro, Minister for Business, Employment and Energy of the Government of the Balearic Islands; Bartolomé Ferragut Llodrà, Director of Tourism Demand and Hospitality at the Consell de Mallorca and Vice-President of the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation; Silvia Delgado, Managing Director of the Balearic Regional Development Agency; Jordi Carrasco, Director General of ANEN; and Maria del Camino González Mari, Head of Communications for the Consell de Mallorca’s Tourism Department.
Promoted by Turespaña through its OET in Mexico and organised by ANEN, the trip aimed to introduce Mallorca to the Mexican market as a premium nautical tourism destination, demonstrating how experiences at sea connect with the island’s other major attractions, including gastronomy, culture, heritage, nature, wellness, shopping and high-quality accommodation.
Over five days, the journalists had the opportunity to explore different aspects of this ecosystem. The programme highlighted Palma’s position as the Mediterranean’s yachting capital, its heritage and cultural attractions, alongside a visit to Puerto Portals and a boating experience along the south coast with Astondoa. It also offered an insight into nautical activities and waterfront hospitality at Alcudiamar. A range of experiences centred on local cuisine, heritage and the island’s landscape rounded off the itinerary.
The initiative presented the nautical sector as both a tourism activity and an industry that generates economic activity, skilled employment and business opportunities, while offering a gateway to discovering Mallorca from a different perspective.
The visit also demonstrated how public and private sector collaboration can strengthen Mallorca’s international promotion. ANEN received institutional support from the Consell de Mallorca and the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation, alongside contributions from various public authorities, businesses and organisations associated with the destination.
At AENIB, we particularly value initiatives of this kind, which introduce new international markets to the Balearic nautical sector and showcase the quality, expertise and diversity of its businesses.
