The nautical business association of reference in the Balearics, AENIB, created in 1982 and representing more than a hundred nautical companies in the Balearic Islands, fully supports Astilleros de Mallorca in the face of accusations by PIMEM about favorable treatment in the distribution of space in the Port of Palma, related to the planned change of location of Astilleros de Mallorca.

AENIB, which is part of CAEB (Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands), and ANEN (National Association of Nautical Companies), which represents the industrial and business fabric of recreational boating in Spain, together align virtually the entire private entrepreneurial sector of the archipelago. Both associations fully support the statement issued by Diego Colon de Carvajal, CEO of Astilleros de Mallorca, in which he considers "extremely suspicious that a legal concession procedure, such as the project competition to resolve the change of location of Astilleros de Mallorca, is questioned. A change that is produced by the interest of the Port and the City Council in redeveloping the area of Contramuelle Mollet. Yet nothing is mentioned to justify the growth, also legal, by 100% of the area destined to the so-called open shipyard over the last 15 years, without any kind of concession proceedings whatsoever”.

In the statement, he recalls that "Astilleros de Mallorca presented an announcement of project competition, which was published in the BOE (The Official State Bulletin) in January 2020, and a new one in August 2021. It was approved in the APB Board of the same year and made public. Therefore, there is no reason to speak of surprises or cover ups”, as PIMEM does. At this point, he wonders “what hidden interests could PIMEM try to be defending”, interests of a group (ADNEA) that does not represent the sector as do AENIB, ANEN, APEAM and BALEARIC MARINE CLUSTER, among others. ADNEA is not registered as a business association or trade union, nor are its statutes deposited in the register of professional associations.

Mr Colon de Carvajal also emphasizes that "Astilleros de Mallorca is an independent Mallorcan company, with 80 years of uninterrupted history, not part of any group, and managed entirely from Palma".

From AENIB, we want to show our solidarity and support to Astilleros de Mallorca and Diego Colón de Carvajal in this controversy, emphasizing that Astilleros de Mallorca is one of the oldest, most historic and traditional companies in the Balearic nautical sector.
