7th Balearic Nautical Sector Conference to bring together leading industry representatives in Palma

Club de Mar Mallorca will host the 7th Balearic Nautical Sector Conference on 6 October, an event organised by Howden that will once again bring together leading business owners, executives and professionals from the nautical industry to share experiences and analyse some of the main challenges and opportunities shaping the sector’s development.

The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will also be attended by Jordi Carrasco, Director General of the Spanish National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN). The conference will address issues closely linked to the Balearic nautical industry, ranging from the refit and repair of large yachts to the evolution of management models for marinas and yacht harbours.

The opening session will be led by José Francisco Asís de Fominaya, Howden’s Regional Director for the Balearic Islands, and Juan Patricio Corral, Marine Manager Spain at Intact. The programme will then revolve around two round-table discussions in which professionals from different areas of the industry will share their experience and perspectives on the present and future of the sector.

The first panel will focus on “Arbitration in yacht repair and refit contracts: provisions and applicable jurisdiction”, an issue of particular relevance to one of the most important segments of the Balearic nautical industry. Participants will include Diego Colón, CEO of Astilleros de Mallorca; Peter Brown, Director at GYG-MB92; representatives from Albors Galiano Portales Abogados and the project management sector, with Isaac Galcera, Senior Marine Underwriter at Intact Insurance, acting as moderator.

The second panel will focus on the evolution of marinas and yacht harbours and new management models, bringing together representatives from some of the leading companies and facilities operating in this field. Participants will include Toni Zaforteza, CEO of Ocibar; Antonio Almazán, CEO of Ocean Infrastructure Management; José Luis Arrom, Director General of Club de Mar Mallorca; Tomeu Bestard, CEO of Alcudiamar; and Aurelio Vázquez, Director General of Summum Hotel Group. The discussion will be moderated by José Cuart, Director of Institutional Relations at Howden Baleares.

The conference will be closed by Antoni Mercant Morató, Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Government of the Balearic Islands, before giving way to a networking cocktail reception where attendees will be able to continue exchanging experiences and strengthening professional relationships.

With this seventh edition, the Balearic Nautical Sector Conference once again provides a meeting point and forum for reflection for an industry that is strategic to the islands, addressing issues directly related to its current activity and the changes that will shape its development over the coming years.
